Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport (ARK) for domestic flights, a representative from Genau Adventure Safaris will greet you. They will take you to your accommodation in Arusha, where you’ll spend the night at the charming Arusha Planet Lodge.

After breakfast, we’ll set off for Tarangire National Park, named after the Tarangire River, the region’s vital water source during the dry season. This ‘river of warthogs’ flows through dense vegetation, including elephant grass and acacia woodlands. Tarangire boasts one of the highest elephant populations in Tanzania, making it a stunning and unique destination. Here, you may also spot predators like lions and leopards lurking nearby. The park is renowned for its incredible bird diversity, featuring more breeding species than anywhere else in the world. The safari provides mid-range accommodations, including tented camps or lodges with private bathrooms, comfortable beds, and dining areas.

You can expect to see the Big Five (lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, and rhinos) as well as zebras, giraffes, wildebeests, cheetahs, hippos, flamingos, and a variety of birds.

The best time to visit is during the dry season from June to October. However, the safari is available year-round, with excellent wildlife viewing during migration seasons.

Children are welcome on the safari, but some lodges may have minimum age restrictions for safety. Families with young children should confirm in advance with the operator.

Essentials include:

  • Lightweight, neutral-colored clothing
  • A hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen
  • A good pair of walking shoes
  • Binoculars, camera, and extra batteries
  • A warm jacket for cooler mornings and evenings

The safari uses 4x4 vehicles with pop-up roofs for better wildlife viewing. The vehicles are spacious, comfortable, and equipped with a radio for communication.

It’s recommended to have vaccinations for yellow fever and be on malaria prophylaxis. Visitors should also carry insect repellent and consult their doctor before the trip.

Game drives typically last between 4 to 6 hours, with breaks for meals and relaxation at the lodges. Morning and evening drives are ideal for wildlife viewing when animals are most active.
